Past and present The Warmia-Mazury Special Economic Zone was established for a period of 20 years by the order of the Council of Ministers of September 9, 1997 on establishing the Warmia-Mazury Special Economic Zone. In its original form, the Zone covered an area of 334.96 ha located in three subzones Bartoszyce, Dobre Miasto and Szczytno. The first change of W-M SEZ borders took place in October 2001. As a result, three existing subzones were joined by an additional two Elbląg and Pasłęk, and the area of our Zone grew to 372.1 ha. After subsequent modifications of borders, the area of the Zone covered:
  • from January 2004 332.6 ha;
  • from April 2004 307.4 ha;
  • from October 2004 403.4 ha;
  • from January 2005 485.2 ha;
  • from March 2005 524.1 ha;
  • from June 2007 565.8 ha;
  • from October 2007 700.2 ha;
  • from March 2009 738.8 ha;
  • from Jenuary 2010 - 782.0 ha;
  • from October 2010 - 838.9 ha.
Certain modifications to the borders brought about the creation of new subzones. In January 2004, the Olecko Subzone was created. InOctober 2004, Lidzbark Warmiński, Morąg, Mrągowo, Ostróda and Olsztyn Subzones were established. In March 2005, the Mława Subzone was created. In November 2005, the Nowe Miasto Lubawskie Subzone was created. In June 2007, the Wielbark Subzone was established. InOctober 2007, the Ciechanów, Iława, Iłowo Osada andOstrołęka Subzones were established. In March 2009, theOlsztynek Subzone was created. In January 2010, the Nidzica, Orzysz and Piecki were established. In October 2010, the Barczewo and Pisz Subzones were established. The first Licence to conduct business activity in the area of the Warmia-Mazury Special Economic Zone was issued on October 28, 1998 to CETCO Poland Sp. z o.o. The first enterprise to start business activity in the area of the W-M SEZ wasSanit Plast Adam i Eulalia Filipczak sp. j. on September 2, 1999. At present, W-M SEZ covers838.9 ha of land located in24 subzones Barczewo, Bartoszyce, Ciechanów, Dobre Miasto, Elbląg, Iława, Iłowo Osada, Lidzbark Warmiński, Mława, Morąg, Mrągowo, Nidzica, Nowe Miasto Lubawskie, Olecko, orzysz, Ostrołęka, Ostróda, Olsztyn, Olsztynek, Pasłęk, Piecki, Pisz, Szczytno and Wielbark. Two of the largest enterprises of35 companies running business activities in our area are Michelin Polska S.A. and LG Electronics Mława Sp. z o.o.
